(SACRAMENTO ) – Attorney General Bill Lockyer today issued the following statement regarding the State's criminal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the Oracle ELA agreement:

"I want to provide some clarification of remarks recently attributed to me concerning the Oracle matter. While my observations reflected the status of our criminal investigation to date, I must emphasize that this matter is still in the preliminary stages. It is the policy of the Attorney General's Office to refrain from comment on the conduct or progress of any criminal investigation, and we will not specifically report on the Oracle matter until our investigation is complete. The professionals in my office will conduct a complete and thorough investigation, and we will follow the evidence, wherever it leads us. Should evidence develop that warrants criminal charges against any responsible party, those charges will be responsibly and appropriately prosecuted. But at this stage, no particular significance or negative connotation should be attached to the decision by my office to seek information or assistance from anyone in connection with the Oracle matter, and we have received very good cooperation with our investigation from state government employees and officials."
