(SAN FRANCISCO) – Attorney General Bill Lockyer today issued the following statement on the election of U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi as Democratic whip in the U.S. House of Representatives, the highest post ever held by a woman in Congress:

"We're enormously proud of her ground breaking victory. This is good for California and good for our country. She will bring integrity and vigor to the role. It's particularly significant that she is an expert in matters relating to the Silicon Valley – the new commerce so essential to our nation's future."
