CALIFORNIA SCHEDULE II-V DRUG ACQUISITION, PRESCRIPTION AND DISPENSATION PUBLIC STATISTICS

California Health and Safety Code sections 11165(d) and 11190(c) require dispensers to report prescription dispensation information to the California Department of Justice (CA DOJ) for Schedule II, Schedule III, Schedule IV, or Schedule V controlled substances. This reported information is maintained in the Controlled Substance Utilization Review and Evaluation System (CURES), which is administered by CA DOJ.

The below statistical tables reflect an aggregation of the prescription dispensation information reported to the CA DOJ.

Additional CURES data may be available in accordance with the California Code of Regulations, title 11, chapter 8.5, article 3. Information about the data request process is available on the following Department of Justice Research Center web page: https://oag.ca.gov/research-center/request-process.

Additional data on state and local level drug-related overdose outcomes for California, including deaths, emergency department visits, and hospitalizations, as well as opioid and select other drug prescription data, are also available in the California Overdose Surveillance Dashboard on the following California Department of Public Health web page: https://skylab.cdph.ca.gov/ODdash/?tab=Home.
