SACRAMENTO – California Attorney General Xavier Becerra issued the following statement in advance of the listening session that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will be holding tomorrow in San Francisco on its proposed repeal of the Clean Power Plan:

“The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has a legal responsibility to significantly reduce carbon pollution from power plants. This responsibility can only be fulfilled through a strong, effective, and science-based policy like the Clean Power Plan. Repealing it simply won’t cut it. That is why the California Department of Justice is committed to doing everything in its power to defend the Clean Power Plan.”

Background:

The EPA is holding three listening sessions on its proposed repeal of the Clean Power Plan. Tomorrow’s listening session will be the first and only one to take place on the West Coast. Arsenio Mataka, the Special Assistant Attorney General for the Environment, will be delivering official testimony on behalf of the California Department of Justice at approximately 10 am PT/1 pm ET. A live webcast of the listening session will be available here.
