Attorneys general call on all elected leaders, including President Trump, to condemn white supremacy

SACRAMENTO – California Attorney General Xavier Becerra joined 21 of his fellow Democratic attorneys general in releasing a joint statement denouncing white supremacy and urging other leaders, including President Trump, to do the same. The following statement was released in response to President Trump’s comments earlier this week and the events that occurred in Charlottesville, Virginia:

“As Democratic Attorneys General, we condemn white supremacy explicitly and totally, and we call for all our elected leaders including President Trump to do the same. We commend the Republican Attorneys General Association for issuing a statement and appreciate our shared commitment to confront hate and strengthen our states and our country. We must not lose sight of those betrayed by the silence of too many of our nation’s leaders.  We extend our deepest sympathies to the victims of violence and stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of Virginia as we hold steadfast to our commitment to confront hate, racism, and violence."
