Attorney General Becerra and Sacramento Police Chief Hahn Announce $50,000 Reward for Information Leading to Arrest for 1991 Murder of Former California Department of Justice Employee and Family

The Jacobs family was found dead in their Land Park home nearly three decades ago

SACRAMENTO – California Attorney General Xavier Becerra and Sacramento Police Chief Daniel Hahn today announced a new $50,000 reward in the brutal 1991 murders of California Department of Justice employee Marcy Jacobs, her husband Michael, and their nine-year-old daughter Jenny. The officials are seeking information from the public leading to the arrest and prosecution of the person(s) responsible for this horrific crime.

“On January 14, 1991, we learned that the Jacobs family had their lives stolen from them. The California Department of Justice family lost a friend and colleague,” said Attorney General Becerra. “We will track down those who were responsible for Marcy, Michael, and Jenny’s murders, no matter how long it takes. We call on the public to help us bring their killer(s) to justice. We owe the Jacobs family and all their loved ones nothing less.” 

“Over the years, this case has been very challenging for multiple investigators. Due to forensic advances, detectives working with the California Department of Justice, have again begun actively working this case,” said Sacramento Police Chief Hahn. “We are hoping with the passage of time, and the offer of a $50,000 reward, anyone who has information regarding this incident will come forward to help solve this extremely violent crime.”

Before their lives were tragically cut short, Marcy Jacobs served as a staff services analyst at the California Department of Justice, and Michael Jacobs worked as a contractor and carpenter for Fargo Construction in Sacramento. Their daughter Jenny was in the fourth grade at Crocker/Riverside Elementary School. Marcy was attending classes at night to become a crime scene investigator.

Authorities have pursued those responsible for the murders for decades. In light of recent developments in high-profile cold cases in California, investigators hope that with assistance from the public, the killer(s) will be brought to justice.
