Attorney General Becerra Responds to President’s Trump’s Veto of Congressional Resolution Blocking “National Emergency”

SACRAMENTO — California Attorney General today issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s veto of the congressional resolution to terminate Trump’s illegal emergency declaration:

“Congress sent President Trump a clear message: your supposed ‘emergency’ isn’t one and you can’t rob taxpayer dollars to build your wall when Congress explicitly rejected it," said Attorney General Becerra. "Twenty states have taken legal action against President Trump. We are determined to stop his fabricated emergency in its tracks.”

Attorney General Becerra is leading 20 states challenging President Trump’s national emergency declaration and his attempt to divert funding appropriated by Congress for other purposes, alleging that the declaration and diversion of funds is unconstitutional and otherwise unlawful.
